EROSION OF SAND ON ST. CLAIR BEACH The beach in front of the esplanade at St. Clair does not present a very inviting appearance just now, as the continued washing away of the sand has left nothing but stones for some yards out from the wall. It is hoped that the beach will improve before the bathing season.

The St. Clair beach and baths were crowded yesterday afternoon with children taking advantage of the fine weather and making the most of their last day of holiday. This photograph was taken at the St. Clair baths, where children of all ages were enjoying themselves, and inset is a small girl playing with her bucket and the wet sand.

With its stage the St. Clair beach, near the Esplanade steps, a sea lion, a splendid specimen, playfully gambolled to the huge delight of a curious audience this afternoon, alternating polished exhibitions of surfing with ungainly attempts to stroll along the sands, the whole emitting a hoarse bark. Showing little reserve, it chased any who came too close, before itself running away.

Left: St. Clair Life Saving and Surf Club rooms, creeled in 1914 and demolished in 1928. The original "gear box"- is seen on the left. "PROMOTION OF WARMTH.”—An early photograph at St. Clair. Mr A.
