Two works ,of art are now on exhibition at the Campbell Grant Gallery in Christchurch by Dunedin artists protesting against the possibility of an aluminum smelter being sited at Aramoana. “Soft Sell,” at the front, is by Andrew Drummond. It is made of aluminum and beeswax and refers to the link between the company that wants the smelter (Alusuisse Consortium) and Baron Thyssen Bornemisza, whose $24 million collection of paintings is at present touring New Zealand. “Drawing for an Aramoana Roof,” seen at the rear, is by Ralph Hotere and suggests the smelter might damage houses and the harbour.
