Darrel Puru, of the Linwood 14-years rugby league team, evades his Burnside High School opponent, Pirika Taewa, at Burnside High school on Saturday morning. Although well beaten in its debut, Burnside made its niche in Canterbury rugby league history by becoming the first secondary school to enter the Canterbury Rugby League weekly competitions—7o years after the code’s establishment in the province. BURNSIDE HIGH SCHOOL AND JELLIE PARK.—-This new aerial photograph, taken from above Memorial avenue, shows some of the major developments made in the area in the last year. In the foreground is the Burnside High School. Across Greers road, which bisects the picture, is Jellie park, enclosed by winding pathways. The ornamental lake with the circular island stage can be seen clearly. Near the top right corner of the park is the oval St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church.

BURNSIDE HIGH SCHOOL BATHS.—The Burnside High School Parent-Teacher Association has 180 members who have promised voluntary labour for all or some of 10 Saturdays to construct a 110ft by 45ft swimming pool and surround. The big excavation was made a week ago. On Saturday 40 men were at work on boxing when this picture was taken, and concrete will be poured next week. The project, which will cost more than £3000 (half raised by the P.T.A. and half provided by Government subsidy), is under the control of Mr K. G. McCaw.
