These curious people keep the wee store on the bend of the road to Nowhere. First of all, if you want to know thorn better, you have to colour them and paste the whole picture on thin cardboard. Then, if you cut all the bits out carefully, you'll find they fit together until you have the whole family. The person who does it neatest and best and sends it to me with a letter is going to win rather a jolly prize. It's a prize for whoever can tako the most trouble. So get out your paints and your scissors, clever ones. —FAIRIEL.

It was still . . so still that Rosemary could hear the little songs that the waves croon to themselves on-summer afternoons. She felt something of magic in the quietness, but she didn't see the mermaid who had ivanted all her life to build a sand castle. Can't you imagine the elfin green of her eyes, the crown of sea flowers on her floating hair and purple shadows on the rocks?. . . Make a picture of it with your paint-brushes, mount it, and send it to me not later than next Wednesday. There'll be small surprise • packets for the very bests." ...-—"Fairiel."

These are the shades for the wings of the Water Fairies, and into their curly shell-boats you may weave all the tints of mother-o'-pearl. If you are going to try to win one of the six prizes waiting for the best pictures, cutout and paste the drawing on cardboard, then colour it.
