AIDING THE BLIND

POSSIBLE USE OF RADAR (Received Aug. 20, 11 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 19 The possibility of using radar to assist the blind will be investigated by a research unit to be established by the chairman of St. Dunstan’s, Sir lan Fraser, who conceived the idea some time ago and enlisted the iid of the scientist H J. Round, who is experienced in radar research. An anonymous donor made available funds guaranteeing continuance of the work for five years. The Press Association understands that the new development has sound reflection as its basis and may enable the blind to tell when they are passing buildings, also to visualise their size and appearance. Success would mean the end of guide dogs and white sticks.
