DEATH AT 103

HAWKE’S BAY RESIDENT With the death at Waipawa, Hawke’s Bay, of Mrs Jane Boyle in her 103rd year, Waipawa has lost one of the most colourful personalities associated with the history of the town. Mrs Boyle’s wonderfully retentive memory of past events was the admiration of all. Born at Castlereagh, County of Roscommon, Ireland, Mrs Boyle left her native land when only a young girl, going first to America. There she married, and seven of her family of 13 were bom Under the Stars and Stripes. She came to New Zealand some 60 years ago, arriving at Napier and going almost immediately to live in Waipawa. She was predeceased by her husband many years ago. Just over 12 months ago, Mrs Boyle broke her hip, but she made a remarkable recovery, and was able to return to her home after several months in hospital.
