MUNITIONS PRODUCTION
PLANS FOR EARLY CESSATION The production of munitions throughout New Zealand is to cease as soon as possible, according to a statement by the Minister of Supply and Munitions, Mr Sullivan. He said that after the end of the war in Europe reconsideration was given to the munitions programme, and after consultation with the overseas authorities' heavy reductions were effected in local output. When the war in the Pacific progressed rapidly, further adjustments were made, and last week-end, when peace became imminent, immediate advices were sent to munitions manufacturers that a cessation of munitions production would follow the announcement of peace. The production of many lines had already ceased. “We are awaiting advices from abroad as to the future requirements of engineering stores and other commercial supplies which we have been furnishing,” added the Minister, “ and it will not be possible to determine future requirements until replies are received. When further information on this matter is received an announcement will be made.”
