RADIO MANUFACTURE

CONTROL TO BE REMOVED WELLINGTON, Thursday Control over the manufacture of radios will be removed as from August 31, according to an announcement by the Minister of Supply, Mr Sullivan, yesterday. The Minister said that with the end of the manufacturing of military radio receiving sets in sight it was necessary to take steps to allow the radio industry ample time to prepare for the production of domestic receivers. By August 31 most of the military work would have been finished. It was hoped that this notice would enable factories to make preparations for the change to be brought about without loss of production. FACTORY MATERIALS * WELLINGTON, Thursday It was stated officially yesterday that most of the remaining controls over factory materials would be removed immediately, although there would still remain a few controls over certain commodities such as rubber, bicycle tyres and kapok, supplies of which were dependent entirely upon the overseas supply position. It is expected that the position regarding overseas supplies will be clarified within the next few weeks, as replies are received to inquiries through the Ministry of Supply, as to what other restrictions might be eased.
