CANNED FRUIT
RELEASE NEXT MONTH Y 9 COUPONS TO BE USED It was stated today by the Food and Rationing Controller, Mr A. J. Costelloe, that a quantity of canned fruit would be available throughout the Dominion during July and August, on the presentation of Y 9 coupons. One tin of fruit will be given for each coupon, which can be presented at any time during the period July 2 to August 31, at any store holding stocks. The fruit, which is now being distributed to retailers, comprises an assortment of Australian and New Zealand packs and the varieties are pears, peaches and apricots. The greatest percentage, however, is made up of pears, and the public should realise that it is not the fault of their storekeeper if they are unable to obtain the particular variety which they deSire, as supplies of peaches and aprico.ts are very limited.
There are a number of undischarged returned servicemen who are not in possession of ration books, but who obtain their supplies of rationed goods on emergency coupons. In such cases storekeepers are permitted to supply these servicemen with one tin of fruit when they are purchasing their month’s supply of sugar during either July or August.
