TRANSIT CAMP
MINISTERIAL APPROVAL GIVEN
Advice that Ministerial approval had been given for the establishment of the transit camp near No. 1 Bridge, Whitiora, was received by the Hamilton Borough Council last night. The meeting was told that the housing committee had resolved to accept the tender of a Hamilton firm of £209 10s each for 15 prefabricated buildings and a price to be arranged for each of two buildings elected. The chairman of the housing committee, Mr D. C. Street, was authorised to arrange for a contractor to undertake the balance of the building work required on a cost plus basis.
The tender of the same firm of £849 18s each for six nouses was accepted and their erection will proceed as soon as possible. Inese houses will be on ’similar lines to those previously erected in Massey Street, Frankton, and their erection was decided on at a meeting in March.
