NEW COUNCILLOR

MAYOR’S REMARKS RECALLED That the reported remarks of the Mayor, Mr H. D. Caro, at the last meeting seemed to reflect on his personal honour was the contention of the new member, Mr E. J. L. Whiting, at a meeting of the Hamilton Eorough Council last night. Mr Whiting referred to the fact that when his nomination was made at the previous meeting Mr Caro commented that he felt a man should not be considered as a councillor if he was not prepared to go to the vote, adding that there were 39 people game enough to put up their names to be voted for. “I suggest that there is a broad inference that I was lacking in moral courage in not allowing my name to go forward at the election,” said Mr Whiting. The Mayor replied that he had said exactly what Mr Whiting had quoted him as saying. He assured Mr Whiting that there was no personal slight intended but he still held that someone who stood at the last election should have received preference.
