CLASHES IN OSLO
GERMANS AND PATRIOTS (Received May 10, 11 a.m.) LONDON, May 9 Many were killed in clashes in Oslo last night between Germans and Norwegian patriots says Reuter’s Oslo correspondent. Thousands of people celebrating the peace had to run for their lives when hand grenades were thrown and shots fired. Firing and heavy detonations continued for several hours. A British United Press Copenhagen correspondent reports that British troops are helping to mop up quislings lin Copenhagen. The last German communique broadcast "over the Flensburg radio tonight stated “on the order of Grand [Admiral Doenitz all weapons are [silent. We have achieved great I victories but have also suffered heavy defeats. We have succumbed with honour.” The announcer—his voice 'almost breaking down—read the communique "from the headquarters of : Grand Admiral Doenitz.” [ The capitulation of the Germans in Norway has been confirmed by the Allied military mission, which returned to Oslo this morning from the headquarters of the German commander in Norway.
