LAND SALES ACT
EFFECT SUMMARISED MENTION OF DELAY (By Telegrapn.—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Friday “ Summarising the opinions expressed by branches, it would appear that although the delay in getting sales completed is irksome, and the work very much greater, the Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act has not adversely affected business to the extent that was expected,” stated the president, Mr G. S. Boyes, of Hamilton, in his annual report to the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand. “ Prices are stabilising as a result of the Act, and that is no doubt to the good, as otherwise, with the dearth of building, prices would be soaring to unreasonable heights,” he continued. “ Some branches have made valuable suggestions for improving the Act. These will be summarised, and it is hoped to be able to bring them before Parliament with a view to amendment of the Act.” Mr S. T. Paviour-Smith, of Dannevirke, said the most unsatisfactory feature was the lack of finality. The Crown, after expressing intention to purchase, should take a property. Another matter discussed by the meeting was the difficulties being experienced by members in getting tyres, and the effect it was having on their work. It was decided that the secretary should write to Wellington on the matter. A meeting of the institute will probably be held early next year for the election of officers and committees. A resolution was passed expressing appreciation of the services of the president during a difficult period.
