LIGHT HORSE CLUB

ATTRACTIVE PROGRAMME HELD An attractive programme of sports events was staged by the Hamilton Light Horse Club on Mr J. Paterson’s farm at* Horotiu over the week-end. Visitors, owing no doubt to the uncertainty of the weather, were not in such strength as at previous meetings but close on 50 riders attended and offered keen competition in all sections. A proner classification was made of all horses and numbers allotted to the various riders for the season. This being the first of four gala days, to be spread over the season, winning and place ribbons were awarded in each event and the distribution, which wa£ widely scattered, proved most popular. Points were also recorded for the Rogers Shield competition. In addition, three trophies donated by Messrs J. E. Powell and J. H. Elliott, were offered for competition and awarded to the scorer of the highest aggregate in each of the three groups. Mr G. Dusk was _successful in the senior grade, Miss Diana Ranstead in the intermediate and Miss Bernice Roberts in the juniors. Mr A. S. Buckland acted as judge. An invitation was received from Mr Roberts, of Te Kowhai. to make use of his paddoqk facilities and it was decided to assemble there on November 26. “Some of these anti-tobacco cranks are the limit,” wrote an indignant correspondent to a Melbourne paper. ‘•Returning home from the City yesterday by train, a chap I’d never seen before and don’t care if I never see again, cut up rough because most of us were smoking. He was most offensive. It was a smoking camage, too. So I simply told him to go to —somewhere the train wasn’t going to! These fanatics are getting pretty scarce, but there are still those who’d gladly see smoking made a criminal offence.” True for you, sir! But the wishes of the majority should rule. Ninety-nine out of a hundred are smokers now; the hundredth will tell you tobacco is poisonous. Many tobaccos, are poisonous with nicotine. But not the New Zealand toasted ones. Toasting works wonders. It’s the manufacturers’ exclusive process. By eliminating the nicotine it makes these blends what they are. There are only six genuine toasted brands: Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullshead), Cavendish, Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog), Riverhead Gold, Desert Gold and Pocket Edition.
