CAMPAIGN IN ITALY

WEATHER HALTS OPERATIONS (Received Oct. 30, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 29 The weather in Italy has brought operations almost to a standstill. Roads are impassable, bridges have been washed away and small streams turned to raging torrents, so that some of our forward troops have had to be supplied by rope line. Today’s communique from Allied headquarters States that activity was limited to patrolling. Fifth Army tanks entered Rocca San Casciano, 15 miles from Forli, says the Exchange Telegraph Company’s correspondent in Italy. Reuter’s correspondent in Italy says the virtual halt in Allied activity caused by rain, gales and floods, has given the Germans an opportunity to reinforce their defences southeast and south of Bologna.
