FATALITY ON FARM

EX-SOLDIER'S STRANGE DEATH MAN STRUCK BY FLYING METAL The fracture of an emery wheel attached to a cream separator on a dairy farm at Hinuera Valley, a few miles from Matamata, on Saturday, resulted in the death of an ex-ser-viceman and injury to two other men. The victim, who only returned from active service in the Pacific area a year ago, was

Mr Charles William Watson, single, aged about 28, farm hand, employed by Mr Leslie Briskie, a sharemilker. The accident occurred when Mr Briskie, aged 38, was sharpening a tool on the wheel, which his step-son Albert Beauchamp, was operating, the wheel turning at a fast rate. Mr Watson was standing about 12 feet away, and a piece of the broken wheel struck him on the chest, penetrating his lung, causing death soon afterwards. Mr Briskie suffered a severe wound in the right arm and was admitted to the Waikato Hospital, and Mr Beauchamp also suffered bruises on the arms.
