MILITARY WEDDING
BURGESS—MEAD The marriage was solemnised on Saturday, September 23, at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, between Gwen Elizabeth, oniy daughter of Mrs and the late Mr G. E. Mead, Fifth Avenue, Claudelands, and Captain Angus Campbell Burgess, 2nd N.Z.E.F. (on furlough), youngest son of Mr and Mrs A. Burgess, of Normandale, Lower Hutt. The Rev. H. G. Gilbert was the officiating minister, and Mr E. H. Apthorp presided at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her uncle, Colonel H. Smith, of Auckland, wore a gown of white stiffened lace, fashioned in simple style, with a sweetheart neck and a full skirt falling from a low scalloped waistline. Her embroidered veil was caught to the head with a spray of fresh flowers to match the bouquet of cyclamen, hyacinths and azaleas. The bridesmaid, Miss Thelma Smith, of Auckland, cousin of the bride, wore white georgette over taffeta, fashioned on similar lines to the bride. She carried a bouquet of delphinium, cyclamen and love-in-the-mist, with a top-knot of matching flowers. The groom was attended by Lieutenant Norman Grenville, of Wellington. The ushers were Messrs E. McCoskrie and R. Murray. During the signing of the register Miss Joyce Smith, of Auckland, sang a solo. The reception was held at the Centreway Tearooms, where the bride’s mother, wearing a blue tailored costume with matching accessories and carrying a posy of autumn tonings, received the guests, assisted by the mother of the bridegroom, who wore a navy ensemble and carried a posy of scarlet anemones. AVhen Captain and Mrs A. Burgess left by car on their honeymoon, the bride was wearing a two-piece suit of turquoise blue, matching hat and navy accessories.
