BATTLE AT BEMEL
ADVANCE OF ALLIED FORCES LONDON, Sept. 28 A battle is in progress at Bemel, about four miles north-east of Nijmegen, says a Supreme Command correspondent. Our troops are attacking toward the Linge canal, midway between Arnhem and Nijmegen. We are clearing up the area east of the Arnhem-Nijmegen road, between the road and the river. From the bridgehead at Ryckevorsel, on the Antwerp-Turnhout canal, we have advanced some two oi three miles. It is officially disclosed that the Sherwood Rangers Armoured Regiment were the first British troops to enter Germany. Their break-through took plnce in the forest of Reichwald, on the. western flank of the British corridor into Holland.
