WARNING OF “BOOMERANG”

(To the Editor) i Sir, —The controversy over the I rate of wages for sharemilkers is I a two-sided matter that requires to be evenly balanced. If the increase lin pay is to be equitable, all losses, 1 interest, maintenance, manure, repairs, etc., besides the profits, should be equally shared. The trend of legislation to protect the employee alone can be overdone, and i the dairy industry made unprofit- ! able. Increased wages have caused an increased cost of living, and have forced many small producers out of business to the detriment of the public as a whole. There are sharemilkers and sharemilkers. If the sharemilker is to be paid an unprofitable wage Dy Order-in-Council or other legislation and the farmer to receive no consideration on account of the seasons, then it is only to be expected mat the national income will be reduced and the dairying industry become less popular than at present. It is even now on the down grade. The Government’s policy of saving heifer j calves to replace cows that have already been depleted through Government interference with the law of supply and demand and the arbitrary fixation of prices and wages can only have one result.—l am, etc., H. HARRISON.
