LONDON, Sept. 20 The Russians advancing * swiftly through Western Rumania have driven the Germans from Timisoara, little more than 30 miles from the Hungarian border. This means the Russians have advanced well into the plains of Central Europe, and when they have had time to build uo their supplies the way will be open for a major drive toward Budapest and beyond. Timisoara is south-east of Budapest. North-west and south qf Valga the Russians fought forward and occupied more than 50 inhabited localities, says a Moscow communique. The Russians east of Riga fought their way into more than 100 inhabited localities, including two railway stations. The Russians west of Jelgava lepelled strong infantry and tank attacks.

South-east and south of Krosno the Russians captured several inhabited localities.

Russian long-range bombers on the night of September 19 made a mass raid on Budapest, causing fires and explosions.

Among the places the Russians have occupied are Izystohorb, three miles from Slovakia, also Rymanow and Orzechowo.
