SERVICEMEN'S QUARRELS
SUGGESTION TO AUTHORITIES
:By Telegraph.—Press Association) AUCKLAND. Monday
The opii.ion that it would be advisable for New Zealand and Allied authorities to establish a course of instruction in the relations of servicemen toward one another was expressed by Mr J. H. Luxford, S.M., today during the hearing of charges arising out oi an incident in Queen Street on Saturday night. “I hope our own authorities will see that tr.ese imaginary grievances are eradicated,” he said. “I know how easily these things can be worked up from nothing. In one week I have had three incidents of this nature before me. In one case an Allied serviceman was wrong, in the second a New Zealand naval rating was wrong, and in this instance it appears both parties were in the wrong.” The case was one in which Edward Lucre, a New Zealand warrant officer, admitted having resisted a constable in the execution of his duty but denied a charge of fighting. On the first information he was fined £7, and after the hearing of evidence tne second charge was withdrawn.
