FOLK MUSIC EVENING
HAMILTON MUSIC STUDENTS
The Hamilton Music Students’ Association continues to present entertaining and stimulating programmes. Last night was devoted to folk music, which was introduced by Mrs R. Spragg m an intensely interesting little talk, with illustrations of the folk songs of many countries.
Last night’s programme, every item of which was very enjoyable, was as follows: Sonata in G for violin and piano (Grieg), Mrs H. Biland and Mrs H. Hammond; 18th Century French Bergerettes. “Philis plus avare que tendre,” “Bergcre legere,” "Maman, dites-moi” and "Le Bergere,” Miss Lillian Valder; unacompanied r.ongs, “Mistah Rabbit.” (American), "Where have you been walking, Shepherdess” (French-Canadian), "The Dryad and the Sunbeam” (Russian) and ’"Cielito Lindo” (Mexican), Misses E. Gilbert, F. Murphy, N. Kirk and K. Treloar; violin solos. Passacaglia sur un Theme de Sammartini par Tivadar Nachez (Milanese) and English Dance (J. B. Dale), Miss Margaret Wilson: songs. "The Kerry Cow” 'lrish). “In Yon Garden” (English) and "The Green Bushes” (Irish). Miss Fredda Murphy; songs, "Early One Morning” (English), "Turn Ye to Me” (Scottish) and “Begone, dull care” (English), Miss Elsa Gilbert and Miss Rose Grymes; songs, "Hares on the Mountains,” "As I Walked through the Meadows,” and "Lord Randall” (Somerset), Mr Ray Parkes. The acompanists were Mesdames J. L. Howie and N. Howell. Miss A. Gillies, Messrs J. Murphy and G. McCracken. A very enjoyable and interesting evening closed with the singing of the old English round. "Three Blind Mice,” by the audience, under the baton of Miss Margaret Roe.
