OBITUARY

MR JAMES CARSWELL At the age of 81 the death has occurred at his residence, Gordonton, of Mr James Carswell, who was widely known in the Waikato. Mr Carswell, who was born in Wellington, spent the early part of his life in Hawke’s Bay, being one of the pioneers of the Morere district. He came to the Waikato 39. years ago and farmed at Waitoa, Ngaruawahia and latterly at Gordonton. In 1887 he was married at Hastings to Miss Elizabeth Walker. Mrs Carswell died 26 years ago and Mr Carswell is survived by five sons and four daughters. .There are 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
