CHASE THROUGH STREETS WELLINGTON. Wednesday
Chased through Wellington streets yesterday afternoon, a young man wild had just stolen three valuable diamond rings from a jeweller in Lambton Quay made every effort to elude his pursuers but was finally captured in a warehouse by a sailor and civilian and held untile the arrival of the police. Rings which were of a total value of nearly £3OO were recovered. The facts as given are that at about 1.30 yesterday a man visited the shop of Grennison, Limited, and asked the woman in charge, who was the only occupant, to show him some valuable rings. He looked at some and said he would visit other shops and return later. An hour later he came back and examined three rings. He asked to be shown another in the window and while the woman turned to get it ran out of the shop with the three rings in his hand. She immediately followed and tried to calch him. A sailor in a truck coming up the street, seeing the commotion, swung the vehicle round and followed. The man dodged round streets but was located at a warehouse counter and identified by the sailor.
