GERMANS’ HEAVY LOSSES
RUSSIAN TROOPS PRESS ON IMPORTANT CENTRE CAPTURED (Received April 12, 2 p.m.) LONDON, April 11 Tonight’s Soviet communique says: The Russians west of Ska!a repelled atacks from large forces of German infantry and tanks. The Germans at the cost of heavy losses in men and material succeeded in recapturing Buczacz, thereby joining up with the encircled forces. The Russians in Rumania, south of Botosani, forced the Sereth river and captured Pascani, a town and railway junction, also other inhabited localities, including Cristesti, 14 miles north-west of Pascani. The Russians in the lasi direction repelled enemy counter-attacks, took the offensive, and occuiped several places. In the Kishinev direction they occupied 30 places. The Russians in the Tyraspol direction advanced and captured a district centre in the Moldavian Soviet republic eight miles south of Tyraspol. They also occupied 100 other localities and closed in against the town of Tyraspol, where they are engaging the Germans on Ihe outskirts.
The communique recorded the capture of Djanqoy stated that the Russians thereabouts also forced their way into over 50 other places. Many Points Occupied
The communique mentioned the capture of Kerch and said ihe Russians afterwards advanced westward, crossed the Turkish wall and occupied over 40 points, causing the Germans to retreat after heavy losses in manpower and equipment. The Moscow radio reported that large formations of Russian planes bombed Lwow on Sunday night, destroying a great deal of enemy transport, starting many fires, and causing large explosions at the main railway station.
