VICTORY OR DEFEAT? TOJO ADDRESSES DIET RELIANCE ON GERMANY (Unitort Press Assn.-—Uiee. Tel. Copj.-igrtit) (Received Jan. 22, 11 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 21 “Only a hair’s breadth separates final victory from defeat/’ said General Tojo, Japanese Prime Minister, addressing the Diet, according to messages from Tokio. “We have improved our sea and land transportation,” he continued, “but our losses at sea canrwt be minimised. We are speeding up shipbuilding and strengthening air protection. Japanese aircraft production doubled last year and will be further increased.” The Berlin radio, quoting Tojo, said: “Germany holds an impregnable position in Europe. Japanese-German unity is inseparable.” The Tokio radio says the Foreign Minister, Shijemitsu, told the Diet that Britain and America had thus far c-nly touched the outer fringe of the Axis defences.
