WATER SUPPLY
HIGGINS ROAD AREA Fifteen ratepayers in the Higgins Road area, near Frankton, petitioned the Waipa County Council yesterday asking- for the Hamilton municipal water supply to he extended to serve their homes. 1 lie petitioners said there was practically no water supply In the area, and the position at present was acute Horn a health point of view and Are risk. The county engineer, Mr W. G. Macky, said 9000 feet of piping would be necessarv to reticulate a water supply to IS houses. The borough council had in the past provided a meter and charged a minimum or £1 15S Half-yearly, it was suggested that the area shrould apply lor inclusion in the borough. The chairman, Mr S. C. R. Parky, said proposals were under consideration for transfer or several areas to borough control. In any case, inability to obtain piping made any proposal ineffective for some time ahead. It* the county undertook the scheme a special rating area would be necessary, making the rate much heavier than at present. It was decided to reply that the application must be deferred until supplies or piping were more readily obtainable.
