THEFT FROM RAILWAYS

EX-STATIONMASTER SENTENCED (By Telegraph—Press association) AUCKLAND, Thursday The ex-stationmaster at Mamaku, James Francis Campbell, married, aged 35, was sentenced by Mr Justice Callan today to six months’ imprisonment with hard labour for the theft as a servant of £346 belonging to the Railway Department. Counsel for prisoner said Campbell's superannuation money, £2BO, as well as back pay, £36, would go toward repayment of the moneys taken and made a plea for leniency. His Honour, in pronouncing sentence, said the Court had to consider the effect on others in positions of trust.
