SOCIAL SECURITY

MINISTER AND DOCTORS (United Press Assn.—EJec. Tel. Copyright) (Received March 10, 1 p.m.) LONDON, March 9 Following the Government’s acceptance, in connection with the Beveridge report, of the principles of a comprehensive national health service, the Minister of Health, Mr Ernest Brown, had a preliminary meeting with representatives of the medical profession. Further meetings have been arranged. AUSTRALIAN LEGISLATION (special to Times) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The question of reciprocal agreement between New Zealand and Australia in certain social security benefits is under the consideration of the Commonwealth Government, the Minister of Social Security, the Hon. W. E. Parry, said today. Mr Parry said that Mr H. Digby Smith, chairman of the Social Security Commission, had raised the question in consultations he had with the Government of Australia during his recent visit. The Minister added that it seemed probable from reports he had received that unemployment and sickness benefit sections which were somewhat on the lines of New Zealand benefits would be introduced shortly to the Australian Parliament as a separate measure. It was also proposed to legislate separately in relation to all important benefits under the scheme.
