Middle East Mails
•‘Judging by the number of letters for the armed forces in the Middle East still being posted at the 9d rate,” said the Postmaster-General, the Hon. P. C. Webb, ‘‘it is evident that many people are not yet aware that at present only two rates are appropriate. The public can post for trans-Tasman air transit and sea despatch beyond Australia at a charge of 5d for each half-ounce, or can post for surface despatch throughout at the usual rate (for armed forces correspondence) of 2d for the first ounce and Id each additional half-ounce. The Minister again expressed the, opinion that pending the restoration of the air service to the Middle East, surfacedespatch throughout would probably be just as advantageous as part air and part surface transit.
