SEPARATE ZONE
PATRIOTIC AFFAIRS COMMITTEE VISITS HAMILTON WAIKATO REPRESENTATION The committee of inquiry appointed by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, into an application by the Waikato Patriotic Zone Committee for the constitution of the Waikato area as a separate patriotic zone, with a committee similar to the existing Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council, met in Hamilton last night to hear evidence. The committee comprised Pdessrs T. Jordan (chairman), R. H. Nimmo, B. J. Jacobs, and Chas. Todd, with Mr G. A. Hayden as secretary. The Waikato Patriotic Committee representatives present were the Mayor of Hamilton, Mr H. D. Caro, as chairman, and Messrs L. C. Mackie (Te Aroha), L. G. Armstrong and G. Spinley (Te Awamutu), T. G. Reynolds (Hamilton), W. C. Kennedy (Piako), Edgar James and F. T. Ray (Cambridge), S. C. B. Macky (Waipa), H. Johnstone (Raglan), W. Hetherington and Strachan (Morrinsville), W. Paterson and H. B. Fraser (Ngaruawahia), W. A. Lee, H. B. Morton, O’Brien (Waitomo), W. P. Rankin and Housley (Huntly), with Mr W. L. Waddel (secretary of the Waikato Zone Committee) and his assistant, Mr G. A. Wilkes. Mr Caro welcomed the committee of inquiry, and asked Mr Hayden to read the notes of the interview of the Waikato delegation (Messrs Caro, Lee and Waddel) with the Minister of Internal Affairs and his officers in Wellington a few weeks ago. Mr Caro then handed over control of the meeting to Mr Jordan. Mr Jordan briefly outlined the scope of the inquiry and said the committee had already visited Rotorua, Whakatane and Tauranga. Auckland had yet to be visited. The meeting then proceeded to discuss the proposals in committee.
