ROGUE AND VAGABOND
INTRUDER SENT TO PRISON (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Wednesday The danger to which women are exposed through being left alone in homes was stressed in the Magistrate’s Court when James Perry, aged 51, boilermaker, pleaded guilty of being a rogue and a vagabond in that he was found by night in an enclosed yard, and of the theft of two handbags and a purse l and their contents.
It was stated that accused was a notorious housebreaker, and it was stressed that when the city was blacked out the position was more serious than usual. Perry had previously been before the court for arson, having set fire .to a building he entered.
The magistrate said he would have to deal severely and imposed sentences totalling 18 months’ imprisonment.
