Wednesday A continuous serious shortage of power and the probability of added difficulties next winter in the North Island were emphasised by the Dominion Electricity Controller. Mr F M. Kissel, at the opening of the power supply authorities' conference. He said material had come to hand for the construction of a second mam transmission line from Awapuni, which would substantially ease the position m the southern part of the island, and there was a possibility if shipments were completed that an additional 21,000-' ilowatt generating plant would be installed at Waikaremoana by next June. The president, Mr J. A. Nash, mentioned that probably not much control could be exercised over water heaters already installed, but control could be exercised in regard to applications for new installations. LABOUR CONFERENCE WELLINGTON. Wednesday It was announced in the House of Representatives today by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, that the Government would be represented at the International Labour Conference in New York by the Minister of Lands, the Hon. F. Langstone. The Minister is in the United States on a Government mission.
