The disquiet is so cerious that the Government has summoned Parliament to appease the Deputies The patriots condemn the rulers for blind allegiance to the Germans, under whom Bulgaria is drifting slowly and surely toward war against Russia, to which the Bulgarian people are utterly averse. The Government has imposed drastic new measures to safeguard the State. Sept. 12 Arrests *nd the imposition k of heavy sentences by special courts continue throughout France. It is announced from Vichy that 34,000 are now in prisons and concentration camps. The Brusseler Zeitung says that a man and two women were sentenced to death for hiding a wounded Royal Air Force pilot who escaped from a German hospital. The defence proved that the accused were not antagonistic to Germany, but the court imposed the death sentence because "false humanity" was intolerable. The Moscow radio reports that terrorism is increasing in Finland, where the Democrats are persecuted. A number were arrested for criticising the war. The German-controlled Serbian Government has received permission to form an army of 17,000 plus appropriate numbers of gendarmes and military police.
