OUT OF TUNE WITH TIMES DESIRE FOR PEACE (Special to Times) TE AWAMUTU, Saturday. Mr. W. S. Gousman, M.P., and Mr F. 11. Anderson, chairman of the Waikato Electorate. Committee and a member of Hie South Auckland Division, were welcomed 1)v the chairman, Mr. S. S. Preston. at tiie animal meeting or the Te Awaiiiutu Branch of Hie National Party. Mr Preston said that the branch was the strongest numerically and financially in the Waikato electorate. The present was not the time lor political meetings and party politics, hut beeau.-e or the attitude of the Government in implementing its socialistic policy under cover of war effort and ncce-siiy and refusing to combine lor a truly national Government, it was necessary to keep the party in being, particularly as there might be an election. Until sum a national government was formed New Zealand could not this regard the "l.abotir Party in New Zealand contrasted with tiie same party in England and it was hoped that the visit of Mr William Holmes. Hu* British Labour leader, would bring about some cilantro. No responsible person desired an election which would stir up party politics and diversion among the people in a time or national peril. Responsible members of the Government did. no doubt realise what was wanted, but the Federation of Labour, which con-1 rolled the country though it by no means represented the great body of loyal workers, had the decision. Mr Goosman and Mr Anderson gave The election of officers resulted—Chairman. Mr >. s. Preston: secretary. Mr T. Short: committee. Messrs 11. H. Babbage. A. H. Storey. 11. Duncan, W. F. Wbltton. T. Grant and S. Clark.
