CLOSE GAME
OLD BOYS BEAT CITY Solid forward play, interspersed with some fine back movements, marked the Stag Trophy game on No. 2 Rugby Park between Old Boys and City. The teams were: Old Boys.—Higginson, Scott, Paterson, Lissette, Taylor, Fowler, Foster, Graham, Mac Lean, Bremer, Scobie, Johansen, Lee, Thomson, Holloway. City.—Chitty, Sunich, Perkins, Buckingham, Smith, Kelly, Cann, Dowling, Scott, R. Flyger, Flyger, Johnson, Grocock, Keen. Old Boys attacked from the outset and City were soon in difficulties. However, a force down relieved the position. Perkins was responsible for a fine run down the left flank, but the effort collapsed through lack of support, and Old Boys cleared. City had had the better of the play when half-time came with no score. When play was resumed City continued attacking determinedly, but the defence held. Old Boys retaliated for a period and forced two touch-downs in quick succession. When a City forward infringed in a ruck on the line, W. Higginson went close to putting Old Boys ahead, his attempt to goal just falling short. Old Boys in Front City again infringed directly in front of the posts on this occasion, and Higginson made no mistake, giving Old Boys the lead by three nil. City nearly equalised when Perkins broke clear in a fine run down the left side-line in which he beat no fewer than three men, but he was unlucky in just running out. Full time sounded with the score board reading— Old Boys 3 City 0 Mr A. A. Griffiths was the referee.
