CUSTOMS REVENUE PORT OF AUCKLAND DECLINE OVER FOUR MONTHS Customs revenue collected at Auckland showed a further decline, the total being £220,538, compared with £284,153 in April, 1940, a fall of £63,615. For the first four months of 1941, customs collections have been £161,031 less than for the corresponding period of 1940. April collections were, the figures for April, 1940, being given in parentheses: Customs, £220,538 (£284,153); motor spirit duty at 6d a gallon, £58,081 (£63,282); tyre duty, £4630 (£2445); total, £283,249 (£349,880). Excise on beer, £32,911 (£30,896); sales tax, £99,816 (£90,445); collections payable to War Expenses Account, £117,283 (£16,989). For the January-April period the figures are: Customs, £935,768, (£1,096,799); motor spirit duty at 6d a gallon, £253,632 (£281,518); tyre duty, £6045 (£6935); total, £1,195,445 (£1,385,252). Excise on beer. £111,850 (£106,067); sales tax, £360,228 (£339,985; collections payable to War Expenses Account, £421,090 (£71,682). WELLINGTON DECLINE (By Tclpyrapri.— T’ress Association) WELLINGTON, Wednesday The net customs revenue collected at Port Wellington this month shows a substantial decrease compared with April, 1940. The total was £248,536, compared with £282.088 in April, 1940, a decrease of £33,552. War tax totalled £123,916 this month, against £33,656 in April, 1940; sales tax, £93.981. £101.954; beer excise. £12.496, £9987; motor spirit, £40,713, £38,466; tyre tax, £1613, £1757, INCREASE IN CHRISTCHURCH (By Telegraph.—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday Customs returns at Cnristchurch for April, 1940 and 1941. are as follows: Customs, 1940, £75.507. 1941, £69,133; beer excise, £16.275. £19,963; petrol tax, £21,885, £24,059: tyre tax. £784, £134; sales tax, £38,065, £38,451; light dues, £162, £173; export levies, wool, £268, £9O; hides, £69. £B3; war expenses, £6238, £45.155; miscellaneous, £l4, £35; totals, £159,267, £197,276.
DUNEDIN COLLECTIONS (By Telegraph.—Press Association) DUNEDIN. Wednesday Customs revenue from all sources collected in Dunedin during April showed a reduction of just over £BOOO. compared with the returns in the same month last year, the respective figures being £153.347 and £161,598. The following are figures, those for April last year being in parentheses: Customs duty, £42,635 (£50,761); beer duty, £30,974 (£45,356); sales tax, £28,511 (29,412); War Expenses Account, £37.731 (£12.662); gold tax. £lO4l (£1054); tyre, tax £l6 (£398); petrol tax. £12,004 (£12,644); miscellaneous, £534 (£309).
