WOMEN POLICE
TRAINING PERIOD TEN FOR FOUR CITIES (By Telegraph.—Press Assoclailon) WELLINGTON, Wednesday The appointment of women police was announced tonight by the Prime Minister, the Hon. P. Fraser, who is also Minister in Charge of Police. Ten are to be appointed at the outset. Three will be stationed in Wellington and three in Auckland, two in Christchurch, and two in Dunedin. The women police will on June 2 enter the police training school in Wellington, where they will be coached in police regulations and General Acts of Parliament applicable to their duties. In addition, physical drill and lectures will be given. During the course they will reside in flats attached to the school. If after a three months’ course the women measure up to the stand- ! ard required by the department, they j will be drafted for duty to one of j the centres named and will under- | take practical duties under an ex- ! perienced officer, who will accom- , pany them in their inquiries for a ftime to give them confidence and | further tuition. A full 12 months proj bationary period, including the three 1 months in the training school, will ! be served. I
