EMERGENCY SUPPLIES EFFECTIVENESS IN TESTS (By Telegraph.—Press Association) ROTORUA, Wednesday Plans for the landing of emergency supplies by parachute in isolated areas or of rifles and machine-guns in time of war were discussed with an official of the Rotorua emergency precautions committee by Mr E. A. Madden, of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, and Mr A. M. Prichard of the Public Works Department. The officials arrived by air from Palmerston North. A demonstration was given of the manufacture and operation of the small parachutes, which are designed to carry a weight of 281 b. In tests carried out they have proved so effective that eggs in a paper bag, without any packing, have been landed without cracking from 500 ft. The parachute will become part of the standard equipment of the Emergency Precautions Scheme.
