GENERAL RESERVE ENROLMENT THIS MONTH FORM MUST BE FILLED IN (By Telegraph.—rress Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday The enrolment of the Second Division under the national service emergency regulations is expected to take place toward the end of May, according to a statement by the Minister of National Service, the Hon. R. Semple, today. “ Due notice will be given,” said Mr Semple, “ when married men are required to enrol, and it will then be necessary for every man of the Second Division to fill in an enrolment form, regardless of whether he registered for social security purposes.” The Minister also referred to the fact that many men were under the impression that provided they registered for social security purposes and were in possession of a levy book they were automatically registered under the national service emergency regulations. Some confusion had probably arisen through the fa-t that when the regulations were first brought into operation last June, the social security registration forms were used as a basis for compiling the initial ballot registered, which consider of men of the First Division only. This was adopted only as a matter of expediency, and all Subsequent enrolments were required to be furnished on a form (N.S.I) available at all post offices. At present only members of the first division are enrolled, and if a member of that division does not possess an enrolment certificate the' onus is on him to remedy the defect. Those in Second (Division Under the General Reserve Classification Order, 1940, and an amending order, the Second Division of the Reserve and those classes excepted from it are as follows: The Second Division shall consist of all male reservists who are natural-born British subjects and who for the time being are married within the meaning of this Order and have attained the age of nineteen years but have not attained the age of forty-six years, with the following exceptions:— (a) Members of any armed force who are liable as such members for service outside New Zealand. (b) Men who have been discharged in consequence of disablement or ill health from any armed force after service in that force outside New Zealand during the present war. (c) Men undergoing a sentence of imprisonment for a term not less than one year or in confinement as of unsound mind. (d) Natives within the meaning of the Native Land Act, 1931. (e) Men who have been called up for service with the armed forces and whose appeals have been allowed on the ground that they conscientiously object to serving with the armed forces.
