NAVAL OFFICERS

NEW ZEALAND PROMOTIONS (By Telegraph.—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Thursday Lieutenant R. E. Harding, R.N.V.R. (N.Z.), one of the New Zealanders in command of trawlers on patrol and minesweeping service in British waters, has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant-commander. Toward the end of last year he had a leg broken -when his trawler was sunk by enemy action. Sub-Lieutenant J. L. Greer, Royal Australian Naval Volunteer Reserve, and formerly of Auckland, has been promoted to lieutenant. For two years he had been managing a group of mines in Thailand, before he obtained a commission in the Royal Australian Naval Volunteer Reserve. Lieutenant Greer, whose wife and son live at Rotorua, is a son of the Rev. J. L. Greer, of Devonport.
