SEIZURE OF STEAMER

SHANGHAI, April 30 The Italian Consul-General said the Yugoslav' steamer Tomislav was incorporated in th 4 Italian mercantile marine and had been sold to the Lloyd Triestino Line. He said the Japanese had nothing to do with the matter. A Japanese naval spokesman earlier said that the Italian seizure at Shanghai of the Tcmislav, which was under charter to an Australian » firm, to prevent the possibility of her falling into the hands of the British, was not in confirmity with the Japanese intention to prevent the spread of war to the Orient. The Japanese had made representations to the Italian naval authorities. It was later stated that a party of Chinese Maritime Customs and river police had boarded the vessel and would remain until the incident was settled.
