Auckland Choral Society The Auckland Choral Society will present Handel’s “ Judas Maccabaeus ” on Saturday, September 14. A full choir will be accompanied by an orchestra and grand piano. £IOO From School Concert The Dannevlrke Patriotic Society will receive £IOO as a result of a concert staged for two nights by the pupils of Dannevirke High School. “ Hiawatha ” in Wellington Chrissie Talbot, the Fairlie soprano singer, who was one of the leading competitors in a singing contest held in Wellington two years ago, has been engaged by the Royal Wellington Choral Union to sing the soprano solos in the performance of Coler-idge-Taylor’s cantata, “ Hiawatha.” Musical Society’s 80th Anniversary The Royal Christchurch Musical Society, which celebrated its eightieth anniversary this week, held a thanksgiving service on Sunday. Dean Julius took the service and gave the address. He recalled early days of the organisation, which he regarded as the parent body of musical societies in Christchurch. The lesson he had learned about the art of singing, many years ago, and which he now passed on, was, said the dean: “ Don’t try to sing. Just enjoy it and the music will sing itself.”
