GORGING THE UDDER

The habit of gorging the udder with milk with the object of commanding a comparatively high price in the sale ring, cannot be too strongly condemned. It does not deceive the practical man, who can easily tell when the udder is unduly distended, and he knows he can gain nothing from that, but may be very much the loser, as the result of permanent injury to the udder. Purchasers could easily stop the practice by refusing to bid for cows which are quite evidently carrying 24 hours’ milk, or even more. In too many cases it is deception of the very worst kind and all the more deplorable because it only deceives the greenhorn.
