FIRE BRIGADE YEAR

MATAMATA VOLUNTEERS (Special to Times) MATAMATA, Thursday A year of continued progress was reported at the annual meeting of the Matamata Volunteer Fire Brigade. A storeroom had been added to the station buildings, and a concrete path laid round the building. The balance sheet showed that a credit balance of £ls remained from the year’s working. On the working side, the brigade had been maintained at a high level of efficiency, competition times equal to Dominion standards being registered. The report expressed regret at the loss of Deputy-superintendent G. Cockhead, who had left the district after 13£ years’ service wit.h the brigade. Mr G. Stewart was re-elected superintendent and the following officers were also elected: Deputysuperintendent, R. Vincent; foreman, C. Lowrie; secretary and treasurer, C. C. Vincent; drivers, R. White and L. Radford.

Annual Competitions Following are results of the brigade’s annual competitions:— Two-men wet event: Foreman C. Lowrie and Fireman Davies, 40£ secs, 1; Firemen M. Amundsen and W. Quigg, 46secs, 2; Firemen R. Vincent j and L. Radford, 51A secs, 3. | One-man dry event: Foreman C. i Lowrie (scr.), 47 secs., 1; Fireman R. | Vincent (4 secs), 56 secs., 2; Fireman L. Radford (8 secs) 564 secs, 3. | DAIRY FACTORY FUNCTION j Appreciation of the work of the ! factory staff was shown by Waharoa i dried milk suppliers by giving for ! the staff a complimentary social.
