BANK OF ENGLAND NOTES ACTION IN BRITAIN (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrlgtit) (Received Aug. 22, 2 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 21 In view of the fact that a considerable amount of Bank of Englanu notes were held in France and other territories occupied by the enemy it has been decided to prohibit the importing of Bank of England notes into the United Kingdom. An Order-in-Council to this effect comes into force immediately. The value of sterling in the world markets will not be affected since commercial and financial transaction* are not carried out oy means oi banknotes but !;y cheques, cable transfers etcetera Nevertheless, special steps have been taken to give existing holders in neutral countries an opportunity to realise Bank of England notes now he’d by them.
