TOPICS OF THE DAY
Hold On ! *’ “Britain will face the severest ordeal in her history,” comments the Yorkshire Post. “But we shall also look beyond that ordeal to the day, not far distant, when Hitler’s battle with time will have been lost. It is because Hitler has that day in mind that he will spare no fury, no terror, no craft and no casualties in his attack on these shores. Our ordeal will be savage, our danger grave; let us have no false optimism about that. But there is no ordeal which the people of Britain, when their national security is at stake, cannot boldly meet and proudly endure. While we work and arm as we have never worked or armed before, we shall allow no German threats, and no German propaganda, to unsettle our resolve. Whatever the next phase of the war demands of us, we have good grounds for hope. For the keynote of our effort, during the grim weeks and months ahead, we need two words only ; Hold on!"
