DEATH OF MR COX
EVIDENCE OF SUICIDE STATEMENT BY JAPANESE (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received. August 16, 3.15 p.m.) TOKIO, August 15 The Ministry of Justice has issued a statement that an investigation established that Mr M. Cox, Reuter’s correspondent, committed suicide on July 29. He said that Mr Cox’s shoes left marks on a window-sill, and the body was six metres from the building. From this it was deduced that he climbed to the window and jumped deliberately from it.
An examination of Mr Cox’s documents disclosed evidence supporting the suspicions of espionage, since they included records of a number of forces dispatched to China, the movements of Japanese vessels, the numerical strength of Japanese troops in Manchukuo, also records of the number of dead and wounded in the SinoJapanese hostilities.
