HAMILTON BRANCH

NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN The monthly meeting of the Hamilton branch of the National Counci. of Women was held recently in the Lyceum Club, with the president, Mrs D. Mclntosh, J.P., in the chair. At the commencement of the meeting, Mrs Mclntosh spoke of the death of the late Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, of his outstanding qualities of character and leadership* and of the love and respect felt for him by all classes in the community. The members then stood in silence as a tribute to the memory of a great man. The biennial conference of the National Council of Women of New Zealand is to be held in Christchurch this month and several supplementary remits to come before the conference were discussed at the meeting and the conference delegates acquainted with the branch’s attitude tr wards them. During the meeting there was spirited discussion on the subjects of the participation of women in public affairs and of how to develop peacemindedness through home, school and wider influences both here and throughout the world. It is hoped that these discussions will be preliminary to further study and work by the branch. The next meeting will be the annual meeting when the conference delegates will make their report and it is hoped that there will be the usual large attendance of members.
