GARDEN PARTY A successful garden party was held recently at the Knox Presbyterian Church grounds, Huntly, in aid of the church funds. A stall of produce, cakes and sewing, in charge of Mesdames G. Allan and G. Mathie, did good business. Winners of competitions were as follows: Putting, Mrs I. Norrie; croquet, Mrs J. Tapp (Renown); hidden treasure, Mrs H. Gavin, Jnr.; quoits, Mrs R. C. Avery; beans, Mrs A. Capstick (Pukekapia). Among those present were:—Mesdames W. P. Rankin, F. D. Armour, H. Gavin, Snr., G. Allan, G. Mathie, Fisher, J. Boyce, R. Gardner, A. FAREWELL DANCE A very successful farewell dance to men of the Ohinewai district, who are leaving with the Second Echelon of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force, was held in the Ohinewai Hall, which was crowded for the occasion. During the evening, on behalf of the residents, Mr L. Hosking, presented pocket wallets with silver engraved plates to the following:—Corporal C. A. Adams, Sapper N. G. Condon, Privates A. J. Webb, J. P. Davey, H. J. Sullivan, J. B. Godsall. Private J. Rye, who was absent, will also receive a similar wallet. Corporal Adams suitably returned thanks, and the guests-of-the-evening were accorded musical honours. Enjoyable music for dancing was provided by the Elite Orchestra from Huntly, and an extra contributed by Mr Aiden Cairns was much appreciated. A novelty waltz was won by Miss Gunn and Mr C. Hill, and the winners of the spot waltz were Miss Lumsden and Mr N. G. Ward. GIFT EVENING A pleasant time was spent at the residence of Miss M. Aston, Hakanoa Street, Huntly, when a gift evening was held for Miss E. M. Cooper, who has been assistant nurse l at the Huntly Dental Clinic for the past six months, and is leaving to be married. Games and competitions were enjoyed, and a delicious supper was served during the evening. Those present were: Mesdames W. P. Rankin and R. L. Cowie. Misses M. Aston, E. M. Cooper, K. Salter, C. Holmes, Lapwood, Arnold. Luxmore. C. Harmsworth, A. McPherson, P. O'Connor, D. Gibb. E. Rankin.
